The difference between confidence and presence

Confidence is internal. Presence is what people actually experience.

Confidence is something you feel. Presence is something other people feel when you're in the room.

You can be confident and still come across as distant, hurried or unclear. And you can feel uncertain inside but still carry presence — through the way you breathe, pause, hold eye contact and choose your words.

Working only on confidence is working on the inside. Working on presence is working on the bridge between you and the people you speak to.

Both matter. But presence is what changes how the room responds to you.
